Your iPhone has a device name that identifies it to other devices and networks. This allows you to easily determine which device is yours when you are trying to find it from your router, if someone is trying to connect to your Personal Hotspot, or if you need to connect certain Bluetooth devices.
But the name of your iPhone might be the same as other devices on the network, which can make it difficult to find the right one. Our guide below will show you how to change your iPhone’s name to something entirely of your own choosing.
Change Phone Name on iPhone 6
These steps were performed on an iPhone 6, in iOS 9. You can use the same steps on other iPhones using the same version of iOS.
Step 1: Tap the Settings icon.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap the General option.
Step 3: Tap the About button at the top of the screen.
Step 4: Tap the Name button at the top of the screen.
Step 5: Tap the x button to delete the existing name, enter the new name, then tap the blue Done button at the bottom-right corner of the keyboard.
Performing these steps is going to change the name of your iPhone backups, your Bluetooth name, and the name of your Personal Hotspot.
