While there are some third-party apps that allow you to record your voice or other audio, we will be using the Voice Memos iPhone app.
This is a default app on the iPhone, and it can sometimes be found in an Extras or Utilities folder, if you do not have it directly on your Home screen.
Additionally, we will be saving our recorded audio once we are done. That recorded audio file can then be shared through email, if necessary.
Step 1: Open the Voice Memos app.

Step 2: Tap the big red circle at the center of the screen to begin recording.
The Voice Memos app records audio with the microphone, which is located on the bottom of the iPhone. The iPhone microphone does a decent job of picking up sound, but if you are recording something that is not loud, or is far away, then it can be useful to point the microphone at the audio source.

Step 3: Tap the red circle again when you are finished recording.

Step 4: Touch the Done button to the right of the red circle.
You can continue recording audio by pressing the red circle again, if desired.

Step 5: Type a name for the recording into the field under Save Voice Memo. Tap the Save button when you are finished.

You can then tap the recording to listen to it, edit it, delete it, or share it.

Now that you know how ot create a voice memo on your iPhone 5 you will be able to use this option whenever you have audio that you want to record so that you can listen to it later or share it with someone else.
Note that if you are looking for other ways to record on your iPhone, then the video camera is a good choice as well. You can use it to record audio and video on your iPhone as an image file, which can then be shared via text message, email, or uploaded to YouTube.
While you will be recording video as well, this can be a good option for recording audio on your iPhone if you are more comfortable with the Camera app than the Voice Memos app. If so, you can open the Camera app, select the Video option from the horizontal menu near the bottom of the screen, then tap the red circle to begin recording. Tapping the red circle again will stop the recording.

Video files recorded on the iPhone can get very large as the length of the recording increases, which can make it difficult to share them with others. Larger video files can also use a big percentage of your iPhone’s storage space.
