Windows 98 was one of the earlier versions of the Windows operating system that set the groundwork for the versions of Windows that are currently popular today. It was released to the general public on June 25, 1998, and received a second update, titled Windows 98 Second Edition (Windows 98 SE), on May 5, 1999.
Mainstream support for both versions of Windows 98 was discontinued on June 30, 2002, while extended support was discontinued on July 11, 2006.
